Equipped with autonomous technology for use on city streets, the bus or the new generation as it is called – the future of the bus – Mercedes-Benz Future Bus has been tested on the streets of Amsterdam.
It has been tested on the road section with the longest bus connections in Europe, to move the vehicle on its 20-kilometer route at a maximum speed of 70 km\h. This system is a further development of the already established Highway Pilot, designed for big cities. This invention will allow buses to drive virtually autonomously on specially marked bus routes. It takes public transportation to a whole new level. This will benefit as the bus service operators, drivers and passengers. Now the road from point A to point B will become faster and more efficient. Daimler Technology does not take away the work of drivers, as they will need to watch the road and still take the wheel periodically, if the road is not suitable for autonomous driving and in emergency situations. In order to promote the future of the bus project from the concept stage to the development stage, you will need to create a special layout for independent bus connection on the streets.
