The first entry of this series came out when in times when Microsoft did their best to serve two masters. Its Xbox 360 should a launch point for different games: from hardcore jRPG to RTS like Red Alert.
Halo Wars is somewhere in the middle. The game was very familiar for most players, but also aimed at proving that console was not worse PC.
That time bulk of various RTS came out for PC, with each of them being attractive to play for certain reasons. Today, when massive strategies are fading away (of course, except of people’s Start Craft 2) launch of new Halo Wars seems like a rescuer for the whole genre.
When everything seems vital With the first launch, Halo Wars 2 charms – it is clear that developers pushed the boat out. Well-arranged videos, effective starting point about a spacecraft. However, the first impression can be wrong, as the developers were tempted into bad ways.
The rule of classic RTS was established back by Dune 2 and first entries of C&C and Warcraft, under which, the player had to destroy enemy’s base, protect their own and make unbeatable army very quickly. This point clearly shows how game designers came to their hard task. Every mission offers a lot of additional objectives. However, unlike many other games, fulfillment of these objectives can really help in Halo.
Besides, another good feature – all missions are well made in terms of story line. The starting point is simple: a spacecraft, which crew is believed dead, appears somewhere in the space. Then, the crew finds AI and learns that the local ruler is backslider from Kovenant and looks like gorilla.
The gameplay is based on construction of base and creation of units. Battle mechanics is easy-to-master for everyone, who played any classical RTS at least once. Aviation is effective against machinery, machinery – troops, troops destroy aviation.
Battlefields Apart from traditional multiplayer, Halo Wars 2 has Blitz mode. This is an attempt to create a mix of Battlefield and collectible card game. Blitz mode took camera view and need to capture checkpoints from Battlefield, while the rest was borrowed from CCG.
However, the key feature of Halo Wars 2 is not a Blitz and campaign mode, but the fact that the market has seen new high-budget RTS.
The game is an achievement in the world, where there is almost no place for this genre.
